In Memory of Those Lost to Incompetent Cervix and Complications Of

What started as a 2-page tribute to babies recently lost to an incompetent cervix or complications of has quickly turned into a community of women banding together to not only share the memories of their angel babies but also to help spread awareness.

In less then 24 hours we have gathered almost 200 names from women around the world wanting to honor the babies they have lost. We’re up to 7 pages of names. And as heartbreaking as it is … we are also receiving messages across the board thanking us for doing this one small thing because to us IC Mamas, we just want to be heard.

1 in 100 may be a statistic but that averages out to around 63,000 women a year experiencing needless trauma due to a lack of awareness and resources surrounding this pregnancy complication. Up until recently, American Pregnancy.org had not only limited information but also heartless wording like “The good news is that this condition is not common at all.” We spoke out and asked them to change the wording because to the thousands of women turning to google after a new and scary diagnosis, that kind of mindset is dismissive and leaves these women, myself included, feeling very alone.

Groups on Facebook like the Incompetent Cervix Awareness group (with over 8800 members) are incredible for these families to be able to but it’s not enough. The more research we do, the more we can see that something as cost-effective and simple as early pregnancy scans (ultrasounds) can drastically lessen the number of babies we are losing every year. We just need one person, with a platform, to listen and to care.
